About 3 and half years ago, I saw an "Angels in our Midst" on WEAR News. It was about a woman who had given the last 20 years of her life to help foster children. I have have always had a desire to work with children. I always thought I would be a Pediatric Nurse, but about a year into Nursing School God showed me His Plan for my life: Teaching. When I saw the episode of "Angels in our Midst" I was interested in more information. Derek and I talked about it, and we said if it was God's Will it would work out! About a year later, in November of 2006, we were getting the call from placement about a 3 year-old little girl.
It happened so fast once we were licensed. I got a call around noon saying our paperwork had been approved by Tallahassee. Around 2 p.m. I received a call from placement. I was shocked at first. I thought it would be weeks! Of course, I told placement yes! I was so anxious the entire day. Placement then is to give the child's caseworker our name and number. They then call us to let us know when they will be dropping off the child. We were told she would be there around 6 p.m. They pulled up around 8:30 p.m. Those 2 and a half hours were so long waiting. When Jenna walked in, the first thing she asked us was, "Where's my room?" We showed her our room, and then from then on she never stopped talking! We instantly fell in love with her! She took our heart! She was with us for about 2 months, and then was reunited with her mom!
That was the hardest part! I was sick for days. I told myself, I will never become attached to another child like that! I hated to pour all I had into her, and then have her removed from our house as fast as she came in! I knew it was God's Will for us to continue fostering, but I was hesitant! I'm so thankful that I didn't stop at that point. Since November of 2006, we have had 20 children in our care. That's 20 children that have blessed us more than you can ever imagine!
When we started fostering, I thought I am going to be such a blessing to these children, and they are going to be so thankful for a great place to stay, and wonderful people to love them. Little did I know, that God was using everyone of these children to bless us! I have seen God's love through all of the children, even the difficult ones! I am blessed to be able to care for these children and have them bless us also!
