FFN (Families First Network) is an organization that is who we are licensed as foster through. Monthly someone from the community has a monthly birthday party for all the children in foster care who have had birthdays. This month, our little one Kadin turned 3. We were invited to the party at Chick-fil-a. The party was fun! They provided the kids with food, cake, and ice cream. Then they give all the kids gifts. The older children recieve gift cards. The younger ones receive gifts that are age appropriate! Kadin received a little tricycle! He was so excited!
Before the started singing "Happy Birthday", one of the ladies yelled, "It's everyone's birthday." We had a big issue with that when it was time for presents! Dru asked, "Where's my gift? The lady said it's my birthday." We then had to explain it to him! That was difficult :)
We are blessed to have a community that cares for these children! At least once a month we are having organizations supporting us by having a fun day for the children, or donating movie tickets... different things. It's encouraging to see other people helping out!
About 3 weekends ago, the Junior League of Pensacola, had a fun day for all the children. They had slides, games, bouncy houses, and food! The children loved it. They also had drawings for gift certificates for the adults. We played BINGO, and Derek won 2 times. We won tickets to a Pelicans game, and he also won $60 to the Oyster Bar in Perdido! It was exciting! The grand prize drawing was for $100 for the Oyster Bar! I won the drawing! I normally never win! It was exciting! We had $160 for the Oyster Bar. We took my parents out, and tried to spend the entire amount, but we couldn't! We still have $60 for another time.
These community events help the kids feel "normal" and also encourage us to know there are others in the community that care for foster children!
